Manatee County’s upcoming television showcase has announced more details about its release.
TNT has put out a teaser trailer for its new show “Claws.” It also announced the ten-episode first season will air in summer 2017.
The series produced by Rashida Jones (“Parks and Recreation”) follows five manicurists at the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon, whose workplace also involves money-laundering, a barely legal pain clinic and other unsavory elements.
The cast includes Niecy Nash (“Reno 911!”), Harold Perrineau (“Lost”), Judy Reyes (“Scrubs”), Jenn Lyon (“Justified”), Carrie Preston (“True Blood”), Jack Kesy (“The Strain”) and Karrueche Tran (“The Nice Guys”).
Dean Norris, best known as Hank from “Breaking Bad,” also recently joined the show to play Uncle Daddy, a Catholic and bisexual Dixie Mafia crime boss.
“Criminal Minds” and “ER” producer Janine Sherman Barrois serves as showrunner. Nicole Kassell, a filmmaker (“The Woodsman”) who also helmed episodes of “The Americans” and “The Killing” directed the pilot, while while Eliot Laurence (“Welcome to Me”) served as writer.
The pilot did some local filming, spending about 10 days in Sarasota County scouting, pre-production, shooting and wrapping up, said Sarasota County Film and Entertainment Office Director Jeanne Corcoran.
However, the majority of it was shot in New Orleans. It has not been announced if any of the first season will be shot locally.
