5 things to know about Chinese New Year. It’s the Year of the Rooster.

The first day of the Chinese New Year is January 28th this year. Welcome to the year of the Rooster. Here are 5 things to know about this new year.

The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon between January 21 to February 20. In 2017, the New Year celebration starts January 27.  The first day of the Chinese New Year is on Saturday the 28th. Traditionally the end of the Spring Festival is the Lantern Festival. (February 11, 2017). Beautiful lanterns are displayed and sweet rice dumpling soup is eaten.

2017 Is a Fire Rooster year

In Chinese astrology, each zodiac year is not just associated with an animal sign, but also one of five elements: Wood, Water, Gold (Metal), Fire, or Earth.
Every 12 years there is a Rooster year. The Rooster ranks tenth out of the 12 animals in the 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle.
Years of the Rooster include 1933, 1945, 1957 (the last Fire Rooster year)., 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017, and 2029.

According to Chinese astrology, being in the year of one’s birth sign is unlucky. There are a few things you can do to fend off the bad luck.

Red is a lucky color in Chinese culture. Is stand for prosperity, loyalty, happiness and success. Red can drive away evil spirits and bad luck.
Wearing things like red socks, belts and red underwear is highly recommended. Only one rule. You can’t buy them yourself. A friend, spouse or family member must buy them.

Facing the right direction
The star Tai Sui is said to bring misfortune to people in zodiac years matching their year of birth. So, in 2017 (a year of the Rooster) Tai Sui is in the west. Adjust your furniture and dwellings to face east to get good luck. When doing something important, such meetings or deals, Roosters should face east, this will increase your chances of success.
