Yesterday was “National Key Lime Pie Day.”
Today is “National Chocolate Milk Day.”
September, for the record, is the national month for chicken, honey, mushrooms, papayas, potatoes and rice.
It all seems a bit absurd, really.
Until it means my morning coffee is courtesy of “National Coffee Day.”
Of all the bizarre food holidays, this one seems to get the most traction in the retail world.
Whether it’s because America has a deep-rooted addiction to caffeine or because it’s much easier to pass out free coffee than free chickens — a few businesses on Thursday are celebrating with discounts, events and freebies.
Here’s how you can get your caffeine buzz on:
- Wawa stores are offering customers free coffee of any size.
- Dunkin’ Donuts on Thursday will sell medium cups of hot coffee for 66 cents.
- Starbucks is donating a coffee tree on behalf of each customer who purchases a brewed Mexico Chiapas coffee in a participating U.S. and Mexico stores.
- Buddy Brew is celebrating by turning its roastery at 2020 West Kennedy Boulevard in Tampa into a movie theater. The Southwest Florida company will show “The Coffee Man,” a documentary that explores the world of specialty coffee through the eyes of World Champion Barista, Sasa Sestic. Tickets are free, and complimentary popcorn and light bites will be provided. Buddy Brew’s coffee bar will be open, and beer and wine will available to purchase.
- Pilot Flying J is treating guests to one free small cup of Pilot Coffee or another hot beverage of their choice, including tea and cappuccino. To get their free cup, guests can just display an online coupon via Pilot Flying J’s Facebook page at the time of purchase in-store.
