Will new Okeechobee Music Festival be the next Bonnaroo?

The promoters behind Bonnaroo and San Fransisco’s Outside Lands have announced dates for a Florida festival. Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival will be held on 848-acres of swampy Central Florida land from March 4 – 6 2016.

In an interview with Okeechobeenews.net, organizers with Soundslinger LLC said they would release the line-up in mid- or late October.

“We have signed major headline artists and an amazing supporting lineup that will rival other major festivals in the United States and worldwide,” said Steve Sybesma, who used to work for Live Nation and is now one of the organizers for Okeechobee. “Our lineup will be similar to a lineup they might have at Bonnaroo or Coachella.”

He said the lineup will cross music boundaries with a mix of classic rock, indie, alternative, electronic and folk.

The festival, billed as Florida’s largest camping festival,  will include a white-sand lakeside-swimming beach and bar, wooded VIP camping areas, an assortment of immersive art installations and a wide array of locally sourced treats from some of Florida’s most popular food trucks, craft beer makers and artisanal purveyors, according to a press release.

Here’s a teaser video they released:

“We believe that the festival culture in the US is at a crossroads,” said Soundslinger Chief Creative Officer Paul Peck, who helped launch and develop Bonnaroo. “People are looking for meaningful festival experiences and events where they can connect with a true sense of inspiration and community. Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival will offer something truly special. Sunshine Grove is the most naturally beautiful festival site in the country and we’re transforming it into a magical new world of music, food, art, and creativity. I can’t wait to share with fans what we’re cooking up.”

Derek occasionally gets homework assignments from daycare. And we want Derek to know the importance of school, especially since he’ll … MORE>>

April 7th is the celebration of when beer became legal again in the United States after the Cullen-Harrison Act was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt on March 23, 1933. It’s rare to see eight female filmmakers lined up in a row discussing their short film and documentary work–mostly because it’s rare to see eight women filmmakers together in one room at all.
