Why the boat parade was canceled. As told in GIFS.

Sarasota's Powerboat Grand Prix continued Friday evening in downtown Sarasota with it's 'Downtown Block Party' and a performance by One Night Rodeo along with the Miss Hooters swimsuit pageant and the Festival of Boats Parade. (July 3, 2015) (Herald-Tribune staff photo by Thomas Bender)

Sarasota loves its annual, summertime boat parade.

People crowd the streets. They get excited.

Sort of like this.

Well, this year the boat parade met a downfall.

Sort of like this.

So. What’s the iceberg that sunk the great boat parade?

There are three of them actually.

Planning a parade route isn’t exactly easy with the pending construction on Cocoanut Avenue and Gulfstream Avenue.

The boats (and people) need somewhere to exit.

Or it’s going to look sort of like this.

Expenses, too, were an issue.

The charity that puts on the event was going to have to front the expenses for security and 200 barricades.

Or, you know, the unruly Sarasotans would look something like this.

The festival planners also wanted to give the typical parade goers more time to see the actual boats up close.

So, they’ve extended the annual “Boats on Main” block party.

This way, guests can meet with the boat teams, take pictures, have autographs signed and get free stuff.

The boaters weren’t allowed to throw things to the parade watchers.

And let’s face it.

Free stuff is pretty cool.

So farewell parade of boats.

The “Boats on Main” block party begins on July 1 at 6 p.m.
