Server Chronicles: Notes

I am sick of people leaving notes in lieu of a proper tip.

I can’t exchange compliments at the bank for my car payment, rent, or grocery bill.

Also your insults are unnecessary.

Just leave “0.00” in the tip line and move on.

There is no need to be an even bigger jerk.

Odds are, I have hated you since you sat down anyway.

So, this “thank you so much” you see above:

–          It wasn’t my table.

–          They ordered martinis.

–          It was her birthday, and we sang to her.

–          They were younger, but they had money for drinks, dinner, and dessert.

–          I guess when tip time came around; they thought the compliment was enough.

Do people really not get it??

Yes it is our choice to serve, but this is the way it is. We make basically nothing an hour, and we need the money we make each day on tips.

That is literally all we make.

So you choosing to stiff us is insulting, especially after singing “Happy Birthday.”

What kind of monster are you?

You took the time to acknowledge the “tip” portion of your receipt, and then you chose to even write something nice.

But you didn’t realize that now, I have to tip out the bussers and bartenders on these sales, so I am paying to wait on you.

You don’t get that do you?

That I just spent an hour or so, sweating for you, and now I have to pay for it too.

Save your compliments, and give us what we deserve from waiting on you.

Ok?

Ok.

And then we move on to the rude note:

–          This was my table

–          She ordered her food incorrectly

–          We fixed it in under 10 minutes, which is really fast for where I work

–          Still angry.

Mistakes happen, whether it is you or me.

She ordered the wrong dish, and fought with me when I tried to fix it, and then I did fix it really quickly, and that still wasn’t enough for her.

She had to be rude while not tipping.

Get over yourself.

Again, we waiting on you and 19 others in your party, dealing with you all sending food back and wanting your food and desserts for free, and as if that wasn’t enough, you had to completely screw us over.

This is another person where I would like to know where they worked and pay them a visit.

But the thing is, I would never do that because it isn’t worth it, and it doesn’t change what happened.

I don’t go places looking to ruin others’ day, and I understand we are all people.

Read these notes and see what not to do.

Eat, enjoy, but also recognize it is a person in front of you with bills, and not a robot.

And every time you leave a note like this, you become a joke, and possibly the material for someone’s blog.

😉

Derek occasionally gets homework assignments from daycare. It mostly consists of him learning how to trace his own name, and some very simple math problems – simple if you’re way above the age of 4, that it is. But it’s homework nonetheless. And we want Derek to know the importance of school, especially since he’ll … MORE>>
