SARASOTA — Jessica Foster wore a cap and gown Saturday at Five Points Park. It was the same one she donned when she graduated from Riverview High School in 2012.

That year she learned she wouldn’t be allowed to take state tests. Because of her immigration status, she didn’t have a Social Security number. She wouldn’t be able to go straight to nursing school, as she’d planned.

“I’m here for my education, for my future,” Foster said.

Foster was holding a pink banner that read “My dreams are not illegal. Support DACA” written in black. She was one of hundreds of protesters at the Love Trumps Hate rally held Saturday afternoon in the downtown Sarasota park.
