What’s happening this weekend?

It’s going to FINALLY start cooling off this weekend and may actually feel like Fall. So hit up some of these great events and enjoy the nice weather while you’re at it. Whether you’re looking for kid friendly fun, another Oktoberfest or perhaps get a little spooked by some ghosts – we’ve found events that check off all those boxes.

Pumpkin carving with sharks!

Mote’s Night of Fish, Fun & Fright is always a treat for the kids and the adults. Between the trick-or-treating, checking out the main Mote building’s attractions and of course the underwater pumpkin carving among the sharks – everyone leaves delighted and stuffed with candy. The event is $10 for members and $12 for nonmembers with 3 and under getting in for free. Head over there Friday from 5:30-8 p.m. and start your weekend off right.

BOO!

Looking to get more into the spirit of Halloween with some spirits? The sign up to take part in one of the Ghost Hunting Tours at Historic Spanish Point. Between Sarasota’s first produce packing house, a chapel and a pioneer cemetery there have to be some ghosts out there ready to meet you. The tours take place from 8-9 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays.

FOOD FIGHT!

Well, not exactly. Eat Local Week is kicking off this weekend and one of the most fun events of the week will be taking place at the Bradenton Farmers Market on Saturday – The Friendly Food Fight. Chefs from local restaurants will be competing in a cookoff that will be judged by a team of foodie millennials. Patrons can also vote for the people’s choice award. Go enjoy some great food and find out what other things are happening during this annual week long celebration of the best local food and farming in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

Flying high!

The Florida International Air Show is one of those events that you have to check off your bucket list. Stunts and extreme flying by the country’s top pilots and demonstrations by The U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team are bound to entertain people of all ages. So make it a family event and head out to the Punta Gorda Airport Friday, Saturday or Sunday and take part in this great event.

Sun Fiesta!

Yes, it’s time for the 44th annual Venice Sun Fiesta this weekend. That means parades, pageants and of course the highly entertaining bed races. This year’s theme is “Celebrate America.” Make sure to check out the website to find out when your favorite events will be taking place all weekend long.

Oktoberfests are still happening!

If you haven’t quite had your fill of Oktoberfests then head on over to the World of Beer off Univeristy Parkway this Friday, Saturday or Sunday to take part in the weekend long WOBtoberfest. German food and beer will be on tap and plenty of great live music.
