Bradenton to get a brewpub

Something’s in the works in Bradenton that hasn’t been seen there in a decade: A brewpub.

3 Keys Brewing hopes to open its restaurant and brewery at 2505 Manatee Ave. E. in October, according to co-owner Jeff Douglas. It’s located in the spot once occupied by Firkin & Fox. Douglas and his wife, Cathy, own the place and their oldest son, Scott, will be the brewer. The plan is for the food to be a major component of the business; it is being described as Panera-style fare.

3 Keys would be the first brewpub in the city since Hops closed about 10 years ago. But unlike a typical Florida brewpub that only sells beer on site, 3 Keys will be licensed to sell their brews to go in growlers and Crowlers. Eventually they may decide to package their beer for sale in stores. They are even looking at opening more brewpubs in Charlotte and southern Sarasota counties.
